While the instruction was good, it wasn't quite the same in Nashville, TN. The instructors I followed didn't have performance opportunities unless you were a part of the performance group. This became discouraging and I finally left the scene. Since then, Linda, a local belly dancer and instructor has started to have Hafla's for students and those interested in performing to give them the opportunity to get on stage and in front of people. Where I am out of practice and haven't revisited the scene, I reflect upon that time fondly. It was incredibly empowering.
The dance troupe in Nashville, did allow me to photography them, and invited me to many of their performances. For a year I followed them to their performances and behind the scenes with the dancers.
During this time I was fortunate to get a lot of wonderful images of talented dancers in this area. I hope you enjoy this selection of belly dance photos from not that long ago.
